HOW IT WORKS STEP-BY-STEP EXCAVATION GUIDE The system allows all survey data for the project to be automatically imported: axis, alignments, gradients, sections, etc. By positioning the device with a multiple backsight method it is possible to know its exact position inside the tunnel. Taking into account the distance between the laser and the rock wall, the system’s software then determines the exact kilo-meter point of the excavation face and allows the associated tunnel sections to be selected: topheading and bench or full-face excavation, support section, rock bolting with wire mesh, etc. Using this laser map displayed over the rock face, operators adjust the excavation tools or processes so as not to deviate from the pattern. The laser projects the profile in real time and space. In other words, it constant-ly adjusts the tunnel being excavated to match the one designed. It also scans the tunnel’s advance and stores the data in a digital model.
