NEWS SPAIN’S FIRST COMMERCIAL GREEN HYDROGEN PLANT IS UP AND RUNNING read more ACCIONA.ORG BRINGS ‘LIGHT AT HOME’ TO THE PHILIPPINES read more read more Spain’s first green hydrogen industrial plant was inaugurated in mid-March by the third deputy prime minister of the Spanish Government, Teresa Ribera, who is also the Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. Located in Lloseta (Mallorca), it is part of the Power to Green Hydrogen Mallorca Project spearheaded by Enagás and ACCIONA Energía in partnership with CEMEX and IDAE. The project rolls out infrastructure for the purpose of building a green hydrogen ecosystem on the island, and contributes to attaining the environmental goals set by its government. According to Ribera, “this pioneering project ushers in technological progress that will be very important in the next few years with a view to replacing fossil fuel gas with green gases like biogas, biomethane and hydrogen obtained with renewable energy. Now more than ever we must mobilize all possible resources to achieve energy sovereignty, and renewables will play a decisive role. Among them, hydrogen is one of the country’s strategic focuses.” Ribera was joined by Reyes Maroto, Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism; Francina Armengol, president of the Balearic Government; José Manuel Entrecanales, Chairman of ACCIONA; and Rafael Mateo, CEO of ACCIONA Energía, in addition to other senior representatives from the Balearic Government, Enagás, CEMEX, IDAE, Clean Hydrogen Partnership, Redexis, and the Iberostar Group. ACCIONA’S corporate foundation has embarked on a new Light at Home project in 100 households in the municipality of El Nido (Palawan), where it will install domestic PV systems to provide over eight hours per day of high-quality electricity at a price far below what they were paying to light their homes, charge their cell phones and computers, and use electronic devices. In addition to expanding its Light at Home program to encompass more households, acciona.org is analyzing other projects aimed at providing access to basic services like water and sanitation. ACCIONA Energía, the world’s largest 100% renewable power utility without a fossil fuel legacy, has made its first foray into the Peruvian market with the construction of a 131.1 MW wind farm in San Juan de Marcona, in the country’s Ica region. Requiring an investment of roughly €158 million, the farm will have 23 wind turbines, each with a planned capacity of 5.7 MW. Every year it will generate the equivalent of 608 gigawatts per hour (GWh), enough to power 478,000 households, and prevent the emission of 275,000 tons of CO2. It will be operational by the end of 2023 and will be part of ACCIONA Energía’s Social Impact Management Program, which reinvests some of the revenue from its facilities to improve the training, well-being, and environmental management of nearby communities.
