sostenibilidad environments, individuals, and communities. And local governments will bear the high costs linked to these effects. Climate change is threatening Canada’s aging infrastructure - improving green spaces will help towns and cities to adapt. How is the country backing renewable energy? We are a world leader in generating clean and renewable energy - 82% of the Canadian electricity system is produced without greenhouse gas emissions and almost 70% comes from hydroelectric sources. The country backs and finances clean energy technologies which will encourage efficiency and bring cleaner, renewable energies onto a smarter grid, promoting sustainable economic growth and competitiveness. Is all of this transformation possible without changing awareness? I think we have to build confidence in the public and industry to adopt new technology and infrastructure such as vehicles and equipment that use clean power and fuels. The transition towards a low-carbon economy will create opportunities with new industries, markets, supply chains and jobs. Those currently working in the energy sector have transferable skills and can be quickly reskilled. Canada will be investing in a workforce that is agile, resistant, and highly qualified to meet these aims. What role do young Canadians play? We are committed to working with them to speed up global action against climate change, and make sure their voices are heard. Decision-makers around the world must recognize the tangible contributions they are already making towards a sustainable energy future. They must be consulted when writing policies and making investments to find out what they want from the future. Young Canadians will be key in moving towards net-zero by 2050, creating a wealthy global economy and a future where nobody gets left behind.
