HOW IT WORKS Ibiza (SPAIN) Mallorca (SPAIN) A global destination, with only 572 square kilometers of expanse and some 25 tourists for every resident in summer, one of the highest densities in the world. It has only two sources of drinking water: aquifers with resources tending to wane, and essential desalination plants. ACCIONA produces drinking water through three inverse osmosis plants in Ibiza’s capital, Santa Eulalia and Sant Antoni de Portmany. They have a combined capac-ity of some 34,000 cubic meters a day and supply some 125,000 people daily. Integrated water cycle man-agement since 1994 for Andratx, one of the most touristic towns on the islands, with 23,000 inhab-itants in the low season and 70,000 in the high season. Distributes 6.9 million liters daily, with 165 quality con-trols per year. Applies deep digitalization to the entire management cycle with GIS geolocation technologies, cloud-based ordering systems and a network of almost 24,000 smart meters.
