their carbon footprints and save on their energy bills. It is making strides with respect to Power Purchase Agreements (“PPAs”, for long-term purchase of a guaranteed supply) signed with large companies, and it is diversifying that knowledge to go from 600 to 90,000 clients in Spain, the immense majority small and mid-sized businesses, by 2030. This involves doubling the current supply to corporate clients. ACCIONA analyzes the circumstances of each client to design tailored solutions with the double goal of decarbonization and energy efficiency. These solutions range from virtual PPA contracts (allowing decoupling of economic flows and green energy certificates in addition to transac-tions between consumers and generators connected to different power grids) to the creation of distributed generation systems which, when possible, are located at the point of consumption to minimize costs and complement network dependency. This involves setting up renewable systems in the companies them-selves, on their own scales and for self-supply, in addition to options that professional energy management may advise for each client. The company hopes to have 130,000 supply points by 2030, starting with the current 2,000, with models such as ACCIONA itself assuming the investment cost of the installations in exchange for a company con-tracting the supply or management of energy for a certain time period. A family firm with a handful of employees is every bit as much a company as a giant multinational enterprise is. Large clients have their own management and acquisition teams, but SMEs outsource manage-ment of their contracts to advisers or consultants. “That’s why they need us to approach them in a more dynamic and proactive way, with varied but simple products and technologies that are easy to use, and with a transparent value proposition,” Montes explains. CAN YOU DISTINGUISH A CLEAN ELECTRON FROM A FOSSIL ONE? clean energy They are identical. Or they were until the technology patented as ACCIONA Greenchain® enabled us to trace their origin to differentiate them, a guarantee that is still incipient but indispensable in order to extend clean energy consumption to all types of clients. Naturally, when a company doesn’t know whether the kilowatts it consumes come from a conventional or nuclear power plant rather than a wind farm or photovoltaic plant, it can’t guarantee that its goods or services are sustainable with respect to power consumption. ACCIONA Greenchain® provides each client with detailed traceability information on the power supplied at all times, that is, on its consumption and the renewable generator facility where those electrons originated. It also includes parameters such as the emissions prevented and social investments made by the plant.
