INTERVIEW How do you improve productivity in the infrastructure sector where it’s relatively low? We understand productivity in a broader sense. We integrate profitabil-ity and impact, financial and non-financial variables into this concept. Understood in this way, increasing productivity involves on one side activating industrialization, automation, digitalization of processes and operations that increase efficiency, and on the other, multiplying the positive social impact that will be reinforced with the SMP. For example? Ninety percent of our investment budget will be aligned with the current community taxonomy I mentioned. In addition, we are applying the principles of the SMP as a pilot, for example, expand-ing Line 6 of the São Paulo Metro, which analyzes the local context to schedule additional projects in entrepreneurship, training or infra-structure for local entrepreneurs, which are supported in the imple-mentation of the project itself. New bank financing instruments are also applied, with financing associated with investment commit-ments such as training for different groups or communities, emission absorption or supplying clean energy to families in remote regions. We’re going to progressively increase the volume and extent of these regenerative practices to more and more of our projects. PARALLEL LINES DON’T MEET (EXCEPT IN THE GREEN ECONOMY) ACCIONA just demonstrated that for several reasons: 1. The sustainability function and the financial function work out of different offices, but in parallel on com-mon goals such as providing ESG (environmental, social and governance) credentials to project finan-cing. The integration of the two functions was alre-ady felt in 2017. 2. More and more investors ask for information about the company’s ESG profile, so the natural line of com-munication with the investor community is a depart-ment that integrates finance and sustainability. 3. That communication takes place through financial reporting, which must intertwine both aspects to respond to that growing interest. 4. The financial function projects a 360-degree view of the entire Group. Now, with the integration, sustaina-bility can envelop and better permeate all activities.
