READ MORE editorial www.acciona.com The region is on a path to sustainability with an enormous thirst for infrastructure I editorial n 1993, the US Ambassador to Singapore published an article on the cultural values of Southeast Asia, which ultimately explain its economic take-off. He spoke of balance between individual and collective interests, of a zest for learning, of work capacity and team spirit, of family continuity and finan-cial prudence, and of social contact. Any of our colleagues that have been posted there could give a master class on adapting to life and work in the region that offers the best global opportunities. In fact, Rubén Camba, Country Manager of ACCIONA’s infrastructure division, explains how a company headquartered in the West finds commonalities with the editorial local culture to the mutual benefit of both parties, without abandoning its guiding principle of sustainability—in fact, it’s quite the opposite. According to that ambassador, seeking consensus rather than conflict is another characteristic trait, and it’s precisely the aim that underpins all of our international operations, all the more so in places where genuine respect for partners and customers is acknowledged and rewarded. Our integration balances interests, it learns from real needs to design realistic solutions, it approaches partnerships that can overcome certain protectionist barriers with true team spirit. And with prudence. After getting our start in Singapore, in just seven years we’ve signed strategic contracts in Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the Philippines which can open doors in these and other markets. First it was in water and transporta-tion, and soon we’ll be branching out into renewable energy, conces-sions, and industrial projects for a region on a path to sustainability with an enormous thirst for infrastructure. We aspire to grow prudently yet progressively alongside it. We look at global challenges and solutions to climate change. What we do in Spain will help around the world, and vice versa: water man-agement for Agriculture 5.0 that can produce much more with much less, the pairing of renewable power with energy services to speed up the decarbonization of companies and governments as the UN has called for, and even a museum showcasing Dubai’s culture to explain its distinctive traits to the world.
