READ MORE editorial www.acciona.com Reverse osmosis is ready to serve not 30, but hundreds of millions of human beings F THE SEA IN A GLASS OF WATER editorial ew images are as paradoxical as a cast-away adrift, thirsty, and surrounded by water. It will surely be familiar to any city subjected to constant water stress, the Middle East, the deserts of America and North Africa, islands in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, as well as to the east-ern region of Spain. It’s a familiar picture in a large part of a planet that is becoming ever more pop-ulated but increasingly arid due to global warming, and yet still blue and surround-ed by seawater. The technology capable of making this resource drinkable will not be just another technology, but a “crucial ally in addressing the looming water crisis,” as editorial the World Economic Forum rightly points out. Thus, the company that provides the most efficient solution to this paradox will contrib-ute not only to the world’s water security but also to its food security through agricultural irrigation. That company is called ACCIONA. We are a benchmark in desali-nation technology that best meets the combined quality, emissions, consumption, competitive costs, and production scale requirements; that technology is reverse osmosis. And we also set the standards in water engineering and integrated water cycle management, as Lorena Cagigas reminds us. If we can already desalinate 1,000 liters for the price of five liters in a supermarket; if we can already ensure supply to 30 million people in arid environments, and if that cost efficiency —thanks in part to its combination with renewable energies— improves continuously, the bottom line is that reverse osmosis is ready to serve not 30, but hundreds of millions of human beings. Along with the clear benefit for the development of the region that our Social Impact Management also provides, we advocate deploying our facilities responsibly and working with local communities to help them address the needs that they have prioritized themselves. This mission extends to everything we do, be it charging points to decarbonize transportation, an emissions control center or provid-ing access to another basic necessity: tangible and intangible cultural heritage through an unforgettable experience. Happy 30th anniver-sary, ACCIONA Cultura.
